Welcome to FTE.

Did you buy this with expired tags?

I can not find an exemption for this vehicle. I do find it passed smog in 1997 and 1999. That's an eternity without a test, so unless it was non-op'd, or was exempt, you are going to have troubles registering it on top of the smog situation.

I can't imagine the smog standards for these are too high, but if you have to smog it, it has to be OEM. That means the original aircleaner, heat stove, air injection, evap, pcv, vacuum advance, anything that was there when it was new. You are not required to be dyno tested as your rear axle is over 5000lbs empty and it's too big for the dyno anyway. Also, visible smoke is a deal killer.

You may wish to contact the DMV direct if everything else is in order--by that I mean that it is currently registered in CA.

This is where I got the test info:

Vehicle Test History

Basic info and links. Note the seller is supposed to smog it.

thanks/ repair manual

Thanks for the help guys. It looks like I'm going to have to smog it and need to know what parts I need everything was removed except the pump bracket and the canister on the firewall . Are there any good manuals that will give me this information? would it be the same as a pick up with a 360? I would prefer to get them digitally. The truck has a well rig on it so it would be hard to move to another truck. Thanks Steve

Numberdummy may be able to post the emissions parts list and exploded view. I would think you are looking at evap and pcv, as well as the closed aircleaner, heat stove and original choke.

The parts books are available on DVD iirc, but I can't recall the links. Numberdummy knows them, again, maybe he'll crawl back by your post.

1973/79 Ford 600/900 (Heavy Truck) Parts Catalog available on a C/D from hipoparts.com

CA: It's the sellers responsibility...that a vehicle passes the smog test, but getting him/her to pay for all the missing parts would be daunting.

Locating all the original emissions related parts will be a b!tch...looking them up in the parts catalog will be a royal PITA

The thing is, some may be the same as F100/350, but to find out, one would have to look in the 1973/79 Light Truck Parts Catalog to do a comparo.

Where in CA are you located? I know of a truck dismantlers yard in LA that may have some/all of the parts.
