Exhaust Modification---info needed

First a hello from a newbie. Well a 73 year old groundhog hunting NEWBIE.

I bought a really nice 2003 F350 short bed to tow our travel trailer. It has the 6.8L Triton V10. The thing really pulls.

It has single exhaust 3" pipe and sounds fair. I was thinking of putting a glasspack on it (drag racer from the 50's), to help it breathe better.

I took it in for PA inspection and emissions. Passed, but YIKES no emissions sticker. Emissions not necessary for a 1 ton. Now me thinks ?

Can you straight pipe that F350 from cat down (no muffler) or before the cat. Will it pass inspection.

Depends...where are you ? I know here in Cambria they do visuals on emissions, so I know I can't pull that off for state inspection.

Exhaust

LIFTNW8Z:

I live in Lebanon County. Emissions are required, but evidently not on a 1 ton. I was surprised. Really surprised !

It could be that the muffler and or cat fall under safety and not emissions. I would imagine they have to look for exhaust leaks, but does it matter if the 350 has a muffler or cat ???

I am not saying that I want to cut them off, I was going to go Flowmaster. It just raised questions for me. Trying to interpret State Regs did not help me.

Fossil, I think its really up to how hard the inspector wants to push the issue. I know dealerships will try to come up with their own rules. But most places will look and see if the cat is intact.
