96 f350 fuel canister empty, tanks full

Tried to start truck without success. Charged batteries and checked fuel canister and it was empty. Filled fuel filter canister but still won't start. Why was the canister empty and how do I reprime the system? Started about 1 1/2 months ago and all seemed fine.

Not sure what you mean, do you mean the fuel vapor canister? 351 or 460?

if so its not supposed to have fuel in there

what engine? if its a stroke I'm assuming you are referring to the fuel bowl

Sorry for not being more descriptive. The engine is a 7.3l diesel and I'm referring
to the place you put the fuel filter. I just call it the fuel canister. Any way I can't
figure out where the fuel went. I filled the canister and replaced the filter and tried
and tried to start the engine to no avail. I'll check again tomorrow and see if it drained
again. But then how do I get the darn thing primed with diesel?

first make sure it has fuel in the tank. if there is no fuel in the tank the fuel pump will not fill the fuel bowl.

also, the guys down in the 94.5 -97 powerstroke forum are very knowledgeable on these engines and will be able to get you running in no time.

Check the easy things first, make sure you closed the the drain valve on the fuel filter housing and that the pumps are running correctly. After I change my filter I usually cycle the key 3-4 times waiting until the wait to start light turns off so the housing has ample time to fill with diesel. You could possibly have a leak on your drain valve, just look underneath the truck for any signs of diesel. I'm assuming you just changed the filter, that's where I coming from with this. If not you may want to check your fuses since your fuel pumps don't seem to be running.
