95 f150 slow down

I have a 95 150 with the 5.0 and right at 200,000 miles. I have had it about 14 years. It has always run great but these days I don't drive it much. Got it out about a month ago and drove it highway speed for about an hour when, it started decelerating. I floored it and hit passing gear and it ran ok for a bit and then it did it again and again. Took it to a transmission shop and they said third gear had gone out so they rebuilt the tranny. $1500 dollars later it does the same thing. They did some testing and claim its the pip in the distributor. They don't do that work and sent me to some other guy. Does that even sound right????

Welcome, So 3rd gear was still good? I hope you didn't pay for a unnecessary trans rebuild. And get conned by a shop. Try posting this in the right year specific should get plenty of help with any problems you may have.

Ed. Can you do any basic diagnosis on your own? I'd suggest you test the fuel pressure and pull the codes and post up the exact results you get and we'll help diagnose the problem. Often the tools necessary to do these things are available for rent/borrow from local auto parts stores. If you can do that much you will be much better equipped to seek appropriate repair work and avoid completely unnecessary repairs like that trans rebuild you just did.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but, wouldn't the fuel filter jam up when you slam a load on it, but run ok otherwise?
