Well, if you can rule out the obvious and known causes then the pump may indeed be suspect as mentioned. 3500 miles is normally way too soon for filters to be clogged. Does the primary filter look really dirty when you change it?

I personally have not heard a pump make noise other than one that was subjected to DEF contamination but the truck also had no power. For me all were air or low fuel pressure... would love to put a stethoscope on it for myself.

The fuel filter was not looked at to my knowledge as the dealer does all maintance on my truck.

I wish you could put a scope on it too!

I thought you might be on to something till I said I hear the most noise at the HPFP

My tech said he hears it on other 6.7 units but they are mostly county and city units he talks about and I told him they don't care if the truck is making noise as if it blows up they just call for a new one. But if you dish out that kind of money out of your own wallet you pay attention to the odd and coureious sounds.

So back to square one. But thanks for jumping in and trying to solve it. I sure appreciate you input.
They are telling me the noise is normal.

Although I don't have this noise on my '11; I am following this thread with interest. I hope you are able to find the cause.

How often do you drain the fuel/water separator?

Always buy your fuel at the same locations?

I would want to look at the lower filter myself and see if it is dirty.

Try to drain once a month. Fuel mostly same place unless on the road and then at truck plazas.

I really want this to go away. My 2011 never made any noise like this.

Just for the heck of it I went out and drained the fuel filter just to see. I always get nothing but clean fuel out of it every time as I would want and expect to see.
It was super clean!

Yes Sir I did. That is what prompted me to post. For the record I do not consider that noise "normal" by any means. I am not doubting you that the noise is coming from behind the pump area either - I just wish I could hear and see the truck live. The fact that the noise goes away after changing the fuel filters and slowly returns as the miles add up is interesting. I'll keep my eyes and ears open on this.

Ok try to stick with me here. I tried to hold the camera, stethoscope hose to the camera on where your voice is picked up to try to get the sound to go to the video. the very last part of the video is the sound. trying to get the stethoscope to show where the sound is coming from. I think I may eat some crow here. I may have mistaken the noise to be HPFP but It may be the Vac pump I,m getting the noise from. I need you techs to help out here.

The sound didn't come till the last of the video because I was having a hard time to hold the pickup tube to the pickup mike on the phone. I can try again if it not enough for you to get the idea. Just need a third hand.

Tell me what you think.

I applaud your effort but it still is difficult to tell. You definitely have a noise there. You need to determine where the noise is loudest keeping in mind that sound can travel though the metal of brackets and the front cover as well. Have you removed the FEAD belt to eliminate the possibility of a pulley going bad?

Just an up date Dealer took truck in again this morning in an effort to figure out the winning noise. I hope they can locate it this time and I can get it fixed.

Any news from the dealer, MYTRUCKNOWRATTLES? How many miles are on your truck these days? I'll hang around here to see if you need my assistance.

Dealer still has truck and no word from them as yet. My truck has 35000 miles on it.

I am in touch with a customer care rep. She is walking it through with the dealer and myself to try to resolve this issue..

Got my fingers crossed they figure it out.
Will update as I get info.
