How much of a pain??????

I bought a 1990 Bronco that someone had pulled the factory motor and replaced with a carbed 302 that is on its last leg. I have a friend that has a complete 1997 F150 that his son rolled. I can get a 4.6 and overdrive trans with only 67000 miles. My question is how much a pain will it be to install the 4.6 in my Bronco?

Plenty unless you plan on replacing transmission and driveline as well. The 4.6 will not bolt to any of the OEM transmissions in the older trucks.

I have tossed that idea around for a while . I thought about getting a powertrain to transplant into my 78 . Too much work .

Complete electrical system as well? Transfer case? Plan on modifying driveshafts as well. (Cannot be certain how much on the last point but I imagine it will be necessary given the difference in length of the new engine/trans/t-case combo).

You will need the complete wiring harness and related components from the 97 . PATS system may be an issue also .

Got it. Think I will look the 302 up for a re-build. I appreciate it.

Anything is possible. It's not a question of how fast do you want to go......it's how much money do you have!!!

A lot of the hot rodders and truck builders using the Ford mod motors (4.6 & 5.4) use a harness from The Detail Zone Telorvek Design. I've seen them, read about them, but.....it's above my pay grade!!! I think they will build what you need.....but like I said....it's above my pay grade!

They do make an carb intake set up for the mod motors. Then you're looking at tranny/transfer case, all custom mounts, A/C hose fabrication, all new fuel supply, cooling, exhaust, and on, and on and on!!!

Is it doable.....certainly! Feasible.......that's up to you!

A trophy truck bronco certainly is. However, it would cost a lifetime and a half to pay for the work...

Doable? Yes. Any benefits to a smaller more modern motor/ tranny that doesnt make the same power as your 302 in same rpm range? None.
