Performance Tuners

I have read all the posts that have to do with 5 star tuners but has anyone tried any other tuners ? I was looking at tuners and from what I read all the name brands like Hypertech, Superchips, Jet and 5 Star , it seems they all pretty much offer the same stats as for what they can do , only difference I see is price from $250-$500 . . as for what I'm looking for is not so much any more get up and go just to change up the way this truck shifts way to early in most gears.Any input would be great .

If I were to buy new I would go with that 5 star. But, I have had a superchip for years now that has been in a few trucks. I pulled it out of my V10 and plugged it in my 6.2. Instant performance, both power and shifting. I compare the 6.2 power to that of a 125 motocross bike. It goes fast but you have to keep it revved and shift lots. If your a gear to high it falls on its face. The superchips makes it feel like a 250 motocross bike. You don't have to have a heavy throttle to make it go. It now climbs mountain passes a gear higher and moves immediately when you stab the throttle. My truck feels like it has 50 more horsepower. I have never seen a gas engine respond so much to a tuner. Get one!

one of the reasons a lot of people get the 5 Star SCT tuner is the fact 5 Star provides custom dyno tunes specific to the vehicle in question vs just canned tunes from the tuner manufacturer. The 5 Star tunes work amazingly well. I had a Superchip tuner for my 08 Dodge 2500 Hemi and it was the worst experience I have had, my mileage towing went from 8 down to 5.5 and the truck refused to shift properly towing. The excuse from Superchips was because of the increase in power the computer felt it did not have to downshift so instead it would let the speed drop over 10 mph before it even considered a down shift and then it felt real sluggish trying to gain speed. The 5 Star tune just makes these Super Duty trucks come alive and as was said above I would never have believed a tuner could do what they do to these trucks, wish I would have had one for my Dodge.

The 5 Star tunes wake the truck up more than you would think is possible. Early shifting is gone, throttle response is so much better and it feels lighter on its feet. The 93 tune is downright quick for something that weighs close to 8,000#.

I have a superchips Cortex, if you are savvy, I'm not, you can fiddle with the shift points, or run one of the custom tunes available. I run the custom tunes, I am satisfied with it. On performance, it does shift pretty aggressively. I have no dealings with any other programmer, so I can't say which one is better than the other.

I was wondering the exact same question. Have an Edge programmer on 150 4.6L but was not sure if another Edge would be equally as good. Sounds like 5 Star is the way to go.
