waxing the pickup
Okay so the Big Red is going to need some lovin' soon but I haven't waxed it in quite some time more like a few years because last time I did when I would go to wipe the wax off the towel would turn burnt red so I stopped waxing it because I was afraid I damaging the paint more then protecting it. But on Friday I bought a bottle of Meguiars Ultimate Compound and waxed my Corolla and the shine really came out on it so I figured lemme do a small spot on the truck so I did a small section on the cowl and man I was amazed I forgot how good the paint look but again the spot I wiped off the towel would turn burnt red. The hood and roof on the truck looks a little dry and the paint is chipping a bit on the hood and roof as well.
Is this normal? I should also mention it's the original paint Dark Canyon Red.

Yes it's normal on a very old regular enamel paint job that Ford used to use. The paint oxidizes on the surface and turns "dead". You are just removing this "dead" paint. Mequiars has good stuff, and they should have a bottle of wax that is for older cars with dull paint. It will have a little bit more grit in the polish than regular wax, to make it easier to remove the dead layer of paint.
After that, if you want it to look showroom they sell stuff they call " mirror glaze" or glazing compound. After you wax it, put this stuff on and it will really shine.

Here's a link to the mirror glaze. Once you get it looking really good with the other products, put this stuff on it. You don't think it can look any better than what it already does, but this stuff will give it an extra depth and shine that you would not have believed it could have. Get it all buffed out and waxed before you use this.
