I tried a Phillips HID kit on our '94 Bronco, but could never get it to work right. The high/low beam functions were reversed (which screws up my fog and driving lights, not to mention being confusing when approaching on-coming traffic). I tried everything working with the vendor, but no luck. Finally went with HID low beams with a conventional bulb for high beams. The lows are great. I have PIAA driving lights to take care of the highs. I did this about 4 years ago, so maybe that issue is straightened out in the newer kits.

I installed kits from DDM Tuning, 5000K 55W. I love the amount of light they produce! I don't have any major complaints with the light kit but these headlight housings were not designed to control this amount of light. The amount of light coming from the sides of the housing can be a little too much for passing traffic. The color is great for driving in the heavy rains.

Clear housing won't fix it. And if you don't care for other drivers on the road then that's just sad...

Its not about if i care about other drivers its about what safe for me. I dont build a vehicle for other peoples concern and if you think that other person cares about you say that the next time you get cut off or blinded by the passing car with high beams on.

It up to you to be the better person. Knowingly putting in something that will blind others is irresponsible. I understand the whole making a vehicle to your liking, but being an outright *** and doing things that you know negatively effect others on the road is not ok. Two wrong don't make a right...

If you want to do it the right way and get the most out of HID's then look into a projector retrofit. It isn't cheap but it give the best results and doesn't blind other drivers.

I'm sorry if I come across as blunt or rude but there is nothing that bothers me more than people who throw HID's into reflector housing headlight and go around blinding people. Second to that is the people with bright blue head lights...

If you aren't willing to spend a boat load of money switching to projector headlamps which are designed for xenon bulbs, good luck trying to get your next annual "inspection sticker"

I understand you wanting to build your vehicle so you can see properly, but if an oncoming vehicle is blinded and swerves towards you then it may cause a big issue.

CarID has a number of projector kits listed as well as Amazon. I haven't tried one yet, but hopefully soon in the future I will get one.

Go retrofit projectors

Retrofit projectors are THE way to go to get better light output from the X. I installed a Morimoto Mini H1 kit from The Retrofit Source and am extremely happy. It is a great design and the projector just screws through the factory bulb hole in the back.

You to have to use clear-lens headlamps and open them. The capsules are glued so well, we just used a cutting wheel to open the 2nd one and it was cake.

The light output is very even with almost too sharp of a cutoff. I use my fog lights in the city so I can read street signs.

I've just retrofitted HID bulbs in OEM housing on several vehicles and the results are quite variable. Some have decent cutoff and output, and some have terrible hotspots and/or glare, bad enough to pull the HID out.

Been a long time since ive been on here. Glad to see more people doing proper RETROFITS.

Throwing HID bulbs in stock, clear, or whatever is going to cause glare. NO MATTER WHAT. Only way to run HIDs properly is by retrofitting projectors. Even the projector headlights on ebay are designed for halogen bulbs.
