Hey 51 F-1 guys--Lower Grille Lip Question

On the top of my lower grille lip there is small bend in the sheet metal just outboard of the grille tooth opening. There are "identical" bends on each side of the grille. See the attached pics. The bends make the sheet metal go up, or higher, from the flat section immediately outboard of the grille teeth, to a new flat section behind all the grille teeth. Are these bends supposed to be there? The bends are pretty darn symmetrical on both sides of my grille, but the guy doing my sheet metal work is pretty sure the bends are NOT supposed to be there. He thinks there should be one, level flat section from a few inches outside the grille teeth, extending all the way across the back of the teeth, with no level change. Can any of you all weigh-in and provide pics? Thanks!! Tyler

Anybody else have any good pics of this particular area? The diagram from the manual, which I have, doesn't show enuf detail. Anymore pics? Looks to me like there is a smaller less pronounced bend/ridge there. Thanks guys. T

It should be flat, there is a transition to a flat area there. Both of the gray ones below are wrinkled from a bump, and the pic of my blue one is kind of hard to make out.
