blend door actuator adapter

I am working on my '90 F-150 trying to get heat to the floor. It was only providing heat out the vents or defrost before, so I took the dash out to find the plastic adapater between the actuator and floor/defrost blend door was broken.

I have tried the local dealership and was told that the part is discontinued. I would rather not go to a junkyard. I figure if the plastic became brittle and broke on my truck, most likely due to age, then any adapter I find in the junkyard will likely break as well as soon as I try to remove it.

Does anyone know where I can get this part or has anyone been able to fix it with good luck some other way? I am wondering if I can get a metal equivalent or if some other models used a metal adapter as opposed to a plastic one.
