Transmission Shifting very hard coming out of Overddrive
I have a 1992 F150XL 4x4 Supercab,302 v8, 176K miles, , and I believe the E4OD transmission, but not positive. When it shifts from OD to Drive it "hits" really hard. Shifting from Drive to Overdrive seems ok, not as smooth as the other gears but not comparable to shifting down. I'v tried researching other threads but haven't found this same issue. Can anyone get me pointed in the right direction on diagnose and repair?

Yes, same problem here. But I believe you have an AOD trans. Do you have OD button on shifter? If not, then AOD, like mine.
I had same problem. $278 later with new performance valve body took care of problem.
Other thing to check is the TV cable. If its not adjusted correctly, it can present same problem. I didn't perform the repair, but let a local transmission shop do it. He was reputable and had 30+ years experience. 10,000+ miles later and it shifts smooth and like New.
I also have a 1992, F-150, 4x4, Supercab.
