I have a short bed F150 and want to put a tonneau on her. I also like the diamond plate rail protectors. Would this be overkill with accessories. I like the bed rail protectors because I am getting my bed rails repainted from the prior owners scratches and paint chips and would like to protect them. I figured the diamond plate bed rails would also protect the paint from the tonneau cover brackets. What do you think?

All my tonneau covers have a wide foam strip along the bottom to help protect the rails from scuffing. I never remove the rails, so can't say what they look like after all these years.

If you plan on using your truck more and the chance of damage is possible, get the rail covers. Nothing wrong with that.

 

I like the look of the rail cover and tail gate protector. All the scratches on my truck are on the bed rails. So, I am going to re paint them and then put them on. Then add the tonneau cover. The original paint looks great except for the be rails. Thanks for the response.
