I had both fail. You can check with a meter and see what
pad failed. Most likely it is the seat pad not the back rest.
I fixed the passenger side one and replaced the driver side.
The reason for replacing the driver side was that it gets
more use than the passenger side.
The reason for the failure in most cases is the pinch that they
get in that fold. The wire over heats over time and finally
it will burn through and that's it.
The job is not that hard. One thing that makes it easy is to
remove the seat from the truck. Leave the base in the truck
and take the upper frame with the back so you can flip it around
to work on. You will need a set of hog ring pliers and some hog
rings to reinstall it. Glover are a good idea. The seat metal is sharp
As far as aftermarket heat pads they are out there. I did some
looking for them and they all seemed to have there own plugs that were
not the same as the Ford plugs. That is the reason I went with the OEM pad.
