99 Navigator Replacing OEM Amp and Sub
I recently just picked up a used 99 Navigator off a buddy of mine to have for an extra vehicle. The factory sub that is in the back sounds like hell and I am pretty sure it is blown. I would like to replace it with a new one. I did a bunch of searching but couldn't really find much out about the wiring.
I am planning on picking up a new 8" shallow mount sub and probably an amp if neccessary. If somebody tells me the factory amp will give enough power to the new sub then I will gladly save the money. I am a little stumped on the wireing of the amp if I do replace it though. There are five wires going into the amp that I will list below.
1.) Dark Grn/Vio - audio mute
2.) Blk/Light Grn - Ground
6.) Light Grn/Vio - Power
7.) Brn/Org - Subwoofer minus(-)
8.) Red/Blk - Subwoofer Plus(+)
I was told I may need a LOC and 5v-12v trigger in order to hook up the new amp. If anybody could help and tell me exactly what has to be hooked to what I would greatly appreciate it.
The 2 subs I am looking at are the JBL GT804 and Pioneer TS-SW841D. The amp was a Boss R1100M. I found them on Amazon and looks like I could get sub/amp combo for around $120 max. I will link them below. If there are better options out there I would be interested.
TS-SW841D - 8" Shallow-Mount Subwoofer with 500 Watts Max. Power | Pioneer Electronics USA
GTO804 | Powerful & Compact 8 inch Shallow-mount Subwoofer | JBL US
R1100M | Boss Audio Systems
I am not looking for anything earth shattering. I won't be driving the Navigator much and just want something to give me some good full sound.
Thanks
