Hi, I am wondering if anybody has ever seen a DIY tonneau cover kit/instructions? About 7 yrs ago I purchased a used Dakota R/T, and it had a very lightweight tonneau cover, vinyl with an aluminum frame and gas charged struts.

It was very easy to completely remove as 1 piece when I needed to use the bed for hauling. It had 2 simple hinges up front with pins, and a simple attachment in the rear near the tailgate. Worked very nicely, just lift up lightly and the gas charged struts would hold it easily. It wasn't completely waterproof, and I wouldn't keep valuables in there. But it was nice.

I wish I had some pics of it, I kinda remember it looking like it was pretty easy to build.

I really disliked the quality of all the bed covers i saw including their hinge assemblies. So I built my own....frame is 100% aircraft grade aluminum, made my own spring loaded latches & hinges out of aluminum as well.- 5 years and no issues

 

Looks good and tough. Is it a folding cover? Posting a step by step process would be great.

 

If I ever got around to installing the gas struts the back half of the cover would flip up to about 45 degrees....past that if you pulled towards yourself it would remove.

Unfortunitly I don't have the time to do the step by step, but it is really pretty easy.
