Placing pitman arm back into steering box??

Hello,

I am currently in the process of putting my pitman arm back onto the shank from the steering gear box on my 52' Ford F1. It starts on fine, but practically comes to a stop. No hammering seems to help move the pitman arm. I have double checked that all the teeth are properly aligned, but there is still a major hold up that's keeping it from sliding all the way on. Any suggestions as to how to get the pitman arm all the way on?

Thanks for any input!

I believe the actual shaft is cone shaped, as in it gets wider the further it goes on. I cant think of the word for it for some reason.

Put the pitman arm in the BBQ grill for awhile . Handle carefully ,then slide it on .

There are three "missing" splines so it only goes on in one position, do you have them lined up? They are a tight fit, I broke a puller getting mine off.
