Personal Audio System Inop

2000 XLT. The rear seat personal audio system does not work. I push 3&5
on the radio and I get no headphone display. 3&5 work fine when selecting stations. Any ideas?

Thanks

By "does not work" do you mean there is no sound from headphones plugged in to the console, there is audio but the controls don't work, or you're just going off the fact that the headphone indicator does not appear on the head unit? If headphones don't seem to work, have you tried another set of headphones to confirm it's not just a bad set? Have you tried the volume up button to make sure it's not just all the way down?

Nothing works. No volume, no indicator. Headsets work fine. I've tried it all.

Check fuse 34 (7.5A) in the Central Junction Box fuse panel. That's the fuse for the Rear Integrated Control Panel (RICP). If that fuse is good then confirm you have power to the fuse. The feed should be hot at all times.

Has the RICP ever worked since you owned the truck? If not, I suppose it's possible that either not the correct deck was installed (maybe when an aftermarket unit was removed prior to selling used) or an aftermarket center console was installed. The RICP should shut off audio to the rear door speakers when active, so if you know the deck and RICP worked at one point, and the rear speakers still play audio when the radio is on, chances are pretty good it's not a connection issue between the back of the deck and the RICP.

If you're comfortable chasing wires against a schematic I can e-mail you the wiring diagrams from the Factory Service Manual. If you would like a copy, send me a Private Message with the request (include model and model year) along with an e-mail address that can accept PDF attachments.

Thanks. I checked that fuse earlier this morning and it was missing. Replaced it and everything works great.

Great, glad to hear it was a pretty simple fix. Hopefully you don't discover a reason that fuse was removed....
