The mighty V10 lives on!
" The F-650/F-750 will also be available with a “segment-exclusive” gasoline-fueled engine, the 6.8-liter V10. It will be mated to a 6R140 six-speed automatic. Ford noted this engine can be factory-prepped for conversion to operate on compressed natural gas (CNG) or propane autogas. "

Even though Ford is discontinuing the E class van, they are still producing and using the V10.. Maybe by doing so refinements and upgrading will trickle down to those of us who have 'em.
I think it's positive since Ford is currently alining it's models based on "Global needs/production" that's why the Van is getting axed.

I was searching to see what MPG folks are getting with the V10 in like a 450 or 550. My local dealer was referring me to another person who had a V10 in a 450. That person said he bought it because the engine is cheaper by $8,000+; gas is cheaper than diesel; maintanance is less; etc. Then he made the comment that he was only getting 6mpg. He didn't think that was the way is was supposed to be.

Although the cutaways are going away, I have seen many ford transvan type bus conversions ie new motorhomes and handi vans using the cab from the f series vehicles. So the v10 will remain viable as these usually do not have the diesel in RV's and flees run gas since its cheaper than diesel and it initial higher costs. Has any one priced one with the F series cab and a diesel in a RV????? OUCH is the response generally looking $125-150K for one.

Theres no other option for axle ratio unless you get the diesel

The f450 and 550 diesels are not getting much better MPG maybe 9-10.

I don't see how that is possible that the diesel and gas are "equal". Even with 2 mpg less for the gas than a diesel, if you calculate the initial engine cost of a diesel, plus the added fuel cost and maintenance issues, the gas V-10 will always come out on top cost wise, even with the day-today towing effort. There are at least 2 folks on this thread that have F-450 tow rigs with V-10's and love them more than their older 7.3 "best diesel Ford ever made" engine.

I'm pro V10 here, not cutting them down at all. Numbers are numbers.

I understand you are pro V-10, but you can't go by fuel costs alone, and adding in the added diesel fuel costs, plus maintenance costs for a diesel and then the initial cost of the diesel engine, it's a no brainer for a gass rig. Then when you add the fact that a re-build on a diesel is twice or more the cost of a gas long block, it still doesn't add up for a diesel. If you look at the towing ability of the 5.4, it's a maybe, but not for a V-10, the V-10 is the king of towing and reliability, in all catagories, hands down.
