Thanks so much Bill! Sorry for being ignorant, but which "newer" 4 speed tranny with synchronizer's should I look for? I can't outsmart your papers on what I'm looking for. Sorry.

Big Job installed a '51 model something that matched right up, "bolt for bolt" he stated.

Thanks so much for showing these charts, they're GREAT!

Big Job put his sychro transmission into a larger truck, not into an F-1. With the right parts you can do this on an F-2 through F-6 truck.

Thanks 38 Coupe.

How about this for a thought for "upgrading" my tranny. How about a T18 or T19??

Thanks all.

Both the T18 and T19 require cutting your cross member. These are approximately the same length as a T98.

If it didn't come as an option in a 48-52, it doesn't fit without cutting. Period.

Dawg gone it! It seems I'm on the hunt for a 3 speed then. Sometimes staying 'old school' sucks.

Might moving the cross member towards the rear a few inches, except for the master cylinder location of course, solve the cutting/butchering problem and will a T18/T19 bolt right to a 226 or 254?

Thanks again 39 Coupe & ALBUQ F-1

A T18/19 will not bolt up to a flathead of any type, regardless of cross members.
No adapters are available that I know of either. I'm sure it could be done with a bunch of machining and fabrication though....and $$$

Well damn.......

It seems it's down to either a 3 speed or roll with what I have then cause I sure ain't dropping in a Chevy transmission.

Thanks tinman 52!

The biggest problem is the F-1 cross member.....since it mounts the pedals/brakes and is a structural support it can't be removed without changing a bunch of other things and fabbing a new one.

I put a t-5 trans in my f-1 behind the flat V8......it was a ton of work.

Was most of the work due to the cross member, master cylinder & brake pedal location?

Yeah, I don't know if I'm that determined Tinman 52. Yuk yuk.

Might be easier to drop in a 254 & gain 20 HP.

Thanks again.
