Trying to crank with IPR removed?

My brother's 05 died going down the road and wouldn't start. After getting the truck back to his house we pulled the ipr to check it out and the screen was pretty bad and nasty. He had the idea to crank the truck with the ipr valve out to see if oil would squirt out from where the ipr was. Only a very little bit came out.
Should oil gush out if the hpop is good?

I've got to admit, I've never heard of someone trying that, a better test would be to monitor the ICP pressure while cranking and also check the ICPV's at KOEO.

I've cranked with the ICP removed and it just blooped out, high pressure but low volume

The ipr should do the same shouldn't it? How much oil do ya think you got out. We got about 5 ozs.

Thanks guys, I appreciate yall's replies.
Mustang 309, watching the icp-p or icpv while cranking would have been ideal. I loaded his truck up and took it to his house. I had to get back to work, and didn't have time to see about it.
When it happened on the phone what I gather from what he told me his ICP reading should be good. I say that because he kept saying icp percent. That kept throwing me off. I haven't updated my insight in a while and didn't know that edge now has the ICP pressure pid. I dunno if he has his evolution updated to read icp pressure or if it was volts.
By the time I got back he had already removed everything and the turbo. Matter of fact I got there just in time to witness him remove the ipr valve with a pair of channel locks.
Watching it crank just wasn't an option for me. A bad FICM and $700 later I don't tend to stress my batteries no more than I have to and I was pretty sure my baby brother wrenched on the key pretty good before I got to him with the trailer. I didn't even try it.
