tire fitment

So again on my quest to lower highway rpm I'd figure a bigger tire. Well the truck had 33 bfg's on that were wore out, I had a set of 35x14.5r16.5 laying around from my old Chevy... would they fit?..... hmmm... what the he!! I'll try it, yep the fit alright

Took it up on the highway, much lower rpm at 60mph. Now the fun part, since being 14.5" wide yes it does rub the front fender. My question to you guys or input is, what behind this little section of fender? I plan on doing a little trimming so it doesn't rub

A lift is out of the question, too much $$$$, and alignment issue I really don't want lol.

that section of fender is just sheet metal with nothing behind it to screw up. its often cut out to fit bigger tires. but obviously you'll want to stick a flashlight in there before you stick a sawzall in there

Check the clearance on your rubber brake lines up front. The previous owner of my truck had much wider than stock tires on it and they had rubbed both lines quite badly. The left side line was not too far from being worn right through!

I cut my bricknose fenders there to fit 37x12.5s with chains. For me just sheet metal and a bit of the inner fender. But also whatever crap had fallen down in that corner over the years, keep and eye out, screwdrivers, sockets, the block heater cord, etc.

I'll cut it up tonight or tomorrow.. going camping this weekend and see how she does down in Hollister hills. Everybody is so surprised when they see a old diesel on "jeep trails" lol

After...

I still have some trimming to do on the rear portion, but it shouldn't rub or rub has bad anymore. Considering the suspension on these trucks only move a few inches lol
