2002 factory lug nut size.

Somewhere around 2002-2003 ford changed the thread pitch of the factory lug nuts. I'm needing a set for my 2002 EX, can anyone confirm the size and pitch?

Thanks!

The E series still used the 14x1.5 until the end. The F series switched to the 14x2 in 99-04 trucks/excursion. Some E99 models had the 14x1.5 but that does not apply to the excursion. Any lugnuts from a 99-04 SD will work including the 05 excursion only.

I was able to find a full set at a junkyard, all 32 cost me 5.00!

Interesting, but doesn't mesh with my experiences. I replaced my factory axle housings on my '05 EX with housings from an '01 EX (with 4.88 gears, the reason for the swap). The '05 had the fine thread nuts and the '01 has the coarse thread, I had to buy 16 of the coarse ones to finish up the swap. I bought mine from Tousley Ford and paid more, I just didn't remember the details on the size and thread count or I would have posted the answer earlier.

On the Ex the nuts were coarse until late '02 and fine after that.

Depending on when your 02 Ex was manufactured will determine if you have course or fine threat lugs. I would recommend taking a lug nut off your Ex that you know fits properly and head to your local Auto Zone or whatever auto store that is in your neighborhood and test them out. Most stores have sample studs near the packaged lugs in order to determine the proper size. Remember that Factory rims require flat seat lugs.

Edited for correctness, thank you Tom I was thinking about one of my other vehicles when replying.

Just a slight correction Vinny, all factory EX wheels came with the flat washer faced lug nuts, no conical seat nuts on OEM factory wheels that are hub centric.

When I did front brakes and bearings on my 2002 RWD, I had to get new lug nuts because the new hub was different. Now have 2 different lugs for front or back.

That’s because the new front wheel bearings were fine thread and the original rear lugs are course.
Very common because many parts counter personnel don’t realize that the thread count changed in model year 02 during production.
