Diesel Engine Running on Gasoline?! What?

I know some of the top tractor pulling classes (actual tractors) are running diesels converted to alcohol
As gasoline DI systems become more advanced they will also close the gap between gas and diesel as compression ratios are raised beyond what would cause a "wet" cylinder charge to detonate.
Unless some of the utterly cobbled together diesel emissions systems can get refined soon I definitely see gas burners poised to make inroads into territories generally dominated by diesels historically. Not needing a DPF in the exhaust by itself more than offsets any theoretical energy carrying capacity between gasoline v diesel

Methanol is a bit much for some of those engines though- Video Link: http://youtu.be/EpU6-dtuP9s Video Link: http://youtu.be/ydU_t-aX-H4

It was not too long ago that propane injection was all the rage. There probably are some benefits as there are benefits to direct injection gasoline engines. There is also considerable benefit to LPG fuel exclusively, but the point is each fuel requires a substantially different machine to produce work.
Maybe we should go back to coal?

The military 2 1/2 ton trucks were multi-fuel… diesel # and #2, kerosene, heating oil, gasoline (mixed with a little motor oil for lube) and most any other petroleum distilate…

Yea and you can still buy them, in all their 120 HP glory lol. Cheap cheap.
Those were the continental engines, I think.
Apparently the fuel pump was able to determine viscosity somehow, and adapt to different fuels.
Weird that we don't see people buying those deuce trucks for WVO swaps? I mean they only get 10 MPG, but if fuel is free, who cares?
I might sound a bit conspiracy-ish here, but I don't think "the man" wants us to be able to own anything like that, these days.
