Thanks for the encouragement guys, it really helps to be able to share these experiences on here. It lets guys know that they are not alone when it comes to this kind of thing in their build process.

 

It would be nice to always do it the right way, but sometimes you have to do it wrong to learn it was wrong. I know I have done plenty of things wrong but it seemed right at the time! OK now I think I confused myself.

 

I've come to look at these type problems being normal when building a customized truck or car. I can't tell you how many times I've cut stuff back apart because I had a better idea about how I wanted to build it.

The domino effects certainly plays into working on vehicles. One small change can affect a number related components in your build. The most recent domino that I knocked over involved my steering column. I've had the column installed a number of times and usually can be installed in 10-15 minutes. Due to some very small changes that I had made............I spent 4 hours which included a lot of expletives installing my column.



But I guess I'm a glutton for punishment since in the end I enjoy working through the problems.

 

Nice console, any details of how it was made? Gotta make something similar for my truck.

 

Back in December I started a thread on this console build. I've been back and forth working on it and I've considered cutting it up and throwing it in my stove. It's another one of those "I think I should have built it a different way" situations. I will eventually revisit that thread and give my outcome on the console. A combination of cold weather, some materials from a local supplier that had been on the shelf too long, and a few other details have made that console a royal pain the A$$.
