axle and bed swap

I have a 73 f250 with a dana 35 up front with drums. found a 77 parts truck recently with a dana 44 with discs, so its time for a axle swap!! the only thing is the 73 has a rack style power steering and the 77 has a frame mounted power steering box. I would like to switch over to the frame mounted box? anyone done this?? I'm also looking to ditch the flat bed, and I have a bed for a 67-72 laying around in really good shape anyone put one of those on a 73?

I am pretty sure the axle will swap right over and yes get the 77 inside the frame mounted steering box, it is a swap alot of folks have done.

The 67-72 bed will fit, probably have to drill new mount holes in the bed. I think the older frame is more narrow? Also isn't the truck it came off of have a cab mounted gas tank? And your 77 has a behind the axle one right, so filler neck time figure out time, maybe a inside the bed mount?

And you know the bed side "bump" will clash with the cab and front clip "dent", and some folks will have issues bla bla bla....

the bed swap can be done but will bring up alot of issues.. maybe you could find the newer style bed that would be a direct easy to do swap and sell the bump side bed. you may come out ahead in several ways, a real nice bump side bed should sell for more than a good dent bed would cost and you can pocket the difference.... just a opinion ..

Never said I WANT to see it, just trying to help a guy out, I like your idea even better, yes resale for the correct one.

A bump bed on a dent cab NO GO in my book, but sometime ya have to do what ya gotta do. Flat bed on red truck, cause I already have it.

Yes I was making a joke about the whiskey thing, good morning.

At least the fender wells don't rust out as bad.

I despise all boxes in general. I am sad to say that I have reinstalled a box on a pickup once - back when I was dumber. After that, if a box was removed, it was sold and a flatbed was installed.

Not that anybody cares.
