Dad's Engine Build
Just as an fyi, I have a thread going on the 80-86 forum called Dad's Engine wherein I'm detailing out the work on the "stroked 351M" I'm building. Here's today's post regarding my order with Tim:
We almost finalized the order today, but got it close enough for me to pay to get it started. Here are the bits and pieces:
So, I'm looking for input on the ignition. I already know what Bill thinks, but welcome his reasoning and that of all the rest of you. Please chime in.
I would love to have y'all's input, so please join in. But I don't think I'm up to keeping two threads going on the same topic, so will use the one in the 80's forum as that's where I usually hang out.
- Tim's pistons for the Trick Flow heads to give 10.5:1
- Moly rings
- Bearings - Tim's special cam bearings, rod, and main bearings
- Intake - Weiand
- Heads - Trick Flow 195's with stainless valves and springs to match the cam
- Pushrods to match the heads, cam, and rockers
- Scorpion roller rockers
- Comp Cams custom grind Pantera roller cam
- Tie-bar roller lifters
- Timing set - roller
- Gaskets, soft plugs, etc
- Oil pump - standard
- FlowKooler natural aluminum water pump
- Balancer
- ARP head, main, and rod bolts as well as oil pump drive
So, I'm looking for input on the ignition. I already know what Bill thinks, but welcome his reasoning and that of all the rest of you. Please chime in.

Just posted this in Dad's Engine on the 80-86 forum, but thought y'all might be interested.
Picked up the rods after having them shot-peened. Here's a before pic after I had smoothed them and then blasted them with aluminum oxide to ensure they were clean as I didn't want any impurities to be hammered into the surface.
And here's an after they were shot-peened:
Then a close-up of the numbers, for reference, showing the surface texture:

Thanks! That's what the guy that did the peening said. They are really in business to do aircraft stuff and their big client is American Airlines. So they "do it right" with an analysis of the material to select the shot and the pressure, and then use a test strip before and after to ensure everything is correct. He basically said I won't be able to break them.

I don't plan on paralleling my Dad's Engine thread in the 80-86 forum here, but thought y'all might enjoy today's post:
Called Tim this morning and during the conversation he said the heads would be here today. Yeah, right! I didn't fall for that as this is April Fool's Day.
Then the doorbell rang and the distinct sound of a 10 cylinder engine suggested the UPS truck was in the driveway. And, sure enough, he brought the heads!
