PCM replacement snafu

I recently woke up to a PCM malfunction flashing OD light and tranny stuck in high gear . I bought a used PCM and installed it only to get a cranking non starting engine. I've heard the unit has 2b re-programed and keyed is this true ? and how can this be done when the dealer will not reprogram a PCM that I didn't buy new. ANY AND ALL SUGGESTIONS PLEASE leave out the Junk the truck suggestions tho. this is a 2001 4x4 lariot 5.4 auto supercrew W/rebuild trans

If it's a 99 or later, a dealer or well-equipped locksmith must reprogram the anti-theft system to your existing keys. The PCM, the Instrument cluster, and the keys are all "married" to each other.

You CANNOT simply replace either the PCM or the instrument cluster or the keys without this being an issue in the 99 and newer F150 trucks.

I will try a locksmith since the Ford Dealer already said that they wouldn't do it

Whatever it takes...

Of course, transmission problems are only very rarely caused by the PCM, so you'd better hope that after all this that the transmission itself isn't the issue.
