I had a 1992 F250 351 that threw a rod at around 5000 miles and a 2006 F550 6.0 that blew an engine at 30 miles. The 550 was a cab and chassis with a special bed on it, so I waited for a new engine. Every problem I ever had with that truck I reminded them of the yellow peel primer ( lemon ) and got a deal on every repair. I guess bad engines are not all that uncommon. Its how we handle the situation. Glad you got your truck repaired.

I'm thinking that there are more good Ecoboost engines than bad. I bought my '11 FX4 Eco right when they first came out. Haven't had one problem with it and I'm now at 58k miles. It has never been back to the dealer.

The only advice I can give you is use top tier gas, high quality synthetic oil and only Motorcraft oil filters changed every 5k miles. That and drive it like you want - these things don't like to be babied. Mine has seen lots of full throttle driving.

The gas mileage gets much better as they break in fully (I'm talking 40k miles here) and mine routinely gets between 18-20 mpg even with me hammering the thing.

I'll never own a naturally aspirated engined vehicle again. Low RPM torque is hugely addicting.

Ain't that the truth? It seems with mine that the more I push the more it wants to be pushed.

the power is really addicting in this thing. i added a set of the 20 inch factory fx4 wheels and tires to replace the stock 17 steelies. i also bought an sct tuner so i could correct the speedo and downloaded the 87 octane tune. it made a HUGE difference in power and overall driving experience. after running that tank out i downloaded the 91 octane tune and filled with 93 gas. the difference is NIGHT AND DAY over the 87 octane tune. i figured using the 91 tune with 93 gas would ensure there wouldn't be any denotation or pinging issues.

i spoke to the service manager at the ford dealer where we take our work trucks for warranty work about me adding a tuner to my truck and he told me it wasn't a big deal and return it to stock before bring back to the dealer always. he said he very rarely voids warrantys. "sensible mods" (intake, exhaust, stuff like that) he said would never have a problem. when you have track slips all over the floor, and nitrous bottle hook ups visible in the vehicle then there would be a problem.

fuel economy mostly around town is about 14.8 mpg but thats because i cant keep my foot out of it. truck has only 900 miles on it and the new motor about 500 miles. i went ahead and changed the oil yesterday with mobil 1 and a motorcraft filter. it was on sale at walmart and i couldnt pass it up.
