truck dies when i tap gas pedal

ok fresh engine 61 390 fe its in my 74 f350 engine runs great edl carb and intake but if i tap the gas pedal while in gear from a dead stop the truck will sputtter like it wants to die or it dies it also dose this if i stop rapidly any ideas ive checked for vacuum leaks everthing seems air tight i heard if you dont have a dashpot it will do this but the old 390 never had one and i never had this problem all my wires seem ok moved them around while engine was running no change it idles fine and drives great any ideas im really stumped ????

Check and make sure your getting a heathy squirt of fuel from the accelerator pump. Also dying while stopping is indicative of wrong float level.

Agreed, sounds like fuel starvation to me.

What about when you an auto in to reverse and then the engine dies, what might cause that? Ok going fwd.

ok, not an expert, but if this is an automatic, couldn't this be the torque converter? Obviously floats are much easier to fix, so start there.

Idles fine in drive? Or in park?
I had my idle adjusted down around 500, thats what the sticker on my hood says, and i would have to feather the accelerator from a stop, or it would die.
