Paint ?

A few questions on paint , How much paint will it take to paint a 56 F250 , front clip , cab inside and out , and box [ tailgate , front bulkhead , sides , and fenders . As I will be painting in stages I want to get the paint mixed for the entire truck at one time . Now on color , the truck was a light green [ Maybe sea foam green ] . I was going for a silver with black trim , But that green is growing on me . It is a color that you just don't see , and I like things that are not run of the mill . Anyone have pictures of a stock 56 in the light green that shows , color of wheels , grill ,mirrors , and bumpers ?

Need more info....there are lots of variables.
What type paint? Base/clear? Single stage urethane? Enamel? Same color sealer/primer or primer spots? Painting inside the box?
Show type paint or daily driver type?

Your 56 will look real nice in that original light green color. Go to Earl's World here on FTE. George Hartman has 56 paint chips on his website and you can see if it is Seafoam Green. It is a pretty color and you are right, it is something you don't see much today.

It's been 20 years since I painted my '49 F-2, entire truck, inside and out. One stage acrylic urethane, I think I bought two gallons and had about a quart left over.

Daily driver , enamel , light gray primer sealer , inside of box and cab . box has a lot of pitting on inside , so may have bed liner sprayed .

Dual liner makes really good "fit in" liners.....might be worth it if you use your truck yet want to keep the bed a factory color.

DualLiner Truck Bed Liner

These fit awesome, we just stuck one in my buddie's 77 F100.

Doesn't look like they make one that will fit a mid '50s F-250.

Okay, I'd say 1 1/2 gallons minimum, likely closer to 2.
Personally, I would not shoot a metallic color (silver) in single stage . Too hard to get the flake to lay down evenly. Especially if you are painting individual panels. Plus you can't sand and buff it if you get an "oops".
A solid color will be fine as long as you mix ALL the paint together before you start.

I agree with the metallic, it's hard to paint, especially for an amateur. I've only sprayed a few metallics and it was hard. You have to have a really good compressor that delivers a constant strong supply of air. Also, the metallic will look different from one panel to the next if it's not sprayed all at the same time.

I just sprayed a door and fender repair with silver metallic, the paint came out really nice and glossy but it was about two shades off even though I provided the correct paint code.

I vote for either of the colors shown here (the blue on the VW or green on M-B). It was what I was aiming for, but missed a little on mine. IMO the Germans hit the "classy" colors just right. But I've never seen a truck in exactly either color, so it's hard to say.

Here is a pic of a Seafoam 55 truck. Is this the original color of yours?

Go to this link. It is very useful. You can get the Dupont and Ditzler paint codes from here. Also, in 56 Ford trucks had no Seafoam green, They had Meadow Mist Green (code G)

Here is the link: 1956 Color Codes - Ford Truck Paint Cross-Reference

Here is a 55 in what I believe is Meadow Mist Green, however, in 55 there was no Meadow Mist green, but there was a Sea Sprite green which I think was very similar.
