Buying used. What to look for?
I recently sold my '97 f250, no longer needed a 3/4 ton. I plan on buying an '04 - '07 f150 4x4 with either the 4.6 or 5.4. Is there any thing I should look for, or any common problems to be aware of with these trucks. Are certain years better than others.
Thank you for your help.

I don't have a whole lot to offer, but I'll tell you what I know.
If looking at trucks with mileage that is higher (75k plus) see if spark plugs have been replaced. It is expensive for the dealer to do it, and there are many cases where the plugs come apart upon removal. As far as that goes, I would try to find a low mileage truck or one that already had plugs done.
Another part to check is the fuel pump module. It is located on the frame at the rear of the truck above the spare tire. If you lower the tire down with the license plate off you will be able to see it easily. They are known to corrode, especially in places that use de-icer or salt on the roads. It's fairly easy to replace and the replacement modules come with rubber spacers which will help keep it from corroding in the future. My truck is an '06 with only 26k miles on it and the module is showing corrosion. You can get a Dormann replacement for about $70.
