I posted earlier about the problem in my 95 F-150 5-speed (128K) about difficulty shifting into first. From the responses I got, it appears I may need new clutch and throwout bearing. I live in Austin, TX. (I mention this just bc location can have a bearing on pricing.)

This project is bigger than one I would tackle myself. How much should I expect to pay to have the clutch and throwout bearing replaced?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-May-02 AT 10:04 PM (EST)]I've pulled my transmission myself 3 or 4 times. Once you get the tranny out the clutch TO bearing are easy. Its only a 1 day project (if that) but isnt all that hard. I'm from Austin but in Dallas for the summer. If you're willing to make it worth my while I'd be happy to drive down and do it for you. i installed a ram hd clutch, pressure plate and through out bearing for my 89 f150 4x4 w/ m5od tranny. $159.00 from summit racing i can recommend them easily. they have a good stock and free 2nd day shipping to NC. i had to get the flywheel resurfaced that cost me another $20.00 and another day. I dropped the transfer case then the cross member and tranny. I pulled it myself using a jack and a make shift jig to keep the trannsmission from rolling of the jack. i got a buddy to help lift it back up. i am not much at guessing but i would guess the transfer case was about 75 pounds and the tranny about 130 for the first couple minutes of holding it up then it gets real heavy. i drained the fluid and taped a sandwich bag to the tail shaft before i dropped it so i wouldn't get a bath.

I replaced my factory clutch w/ a Centerforce I no more than 30K miles ago and it already went out about a month and a half ago. I definately wouldnt recommend them. My clutch disc was completely gone, had to have the flywheel resurfaced and had the tranny rebuilt while it was out b.c. it had some minor faults (shift forks, synchros). I went w/ an LUK clutch back in and I love it. I was told it was the best factory replacement clutch on the mkt and can definately vouch for the holding power. Great clutch, kinda pricey.
