Just bought a new 79 grill surround from AMP today, and I want it really shiny. I went to Superior Plating, and they recommended not chroming it because it will spider when the first rock hits it. SO......does anyone know, IN THE EDMONTON AREA, where I can get it high luster polished, or anodized?
If you us jewelers rouge on it to polish you,ll get as good as shin as you will by pros ,since that is what they us.you can buy it at auto motive stores. you buy it in a brick ,rub a little on and polish,a polish mashine works best, but by hand you just sit in front of the TV for the night and rub.
Get yourself a buffing wheel (3 inch, I think) with a mandrel that fits a 3/8 electric drill. Get a medium buffing wheel and the whole kit of polishing compounds from House of Tools. Not very expensive at all. I would probably work up to the rouge, and start with the white, then brown. I have bought a cheap buffing wheel to fit my Dremel to polish my wedding band, since it gets scratched at work. I can make it look like brand new, no joke! (red rouge only)
So, you are a proud owner of one of those aftermarket grilles, huh? How is the quality? What was it, like $230? The original I think are stainless steel, but they list one that says 'CHR', I think meaning chrome... But I doubt it is. Thinking of getting a new surround for my '76. The junkyards only have banged-up pieces. Mine was damaged when I bought the truck, and it bugs me like crazy!
