The oil filter is an external, did you check to see if the lines are connected or plugged?

The stock type oil filter is a sidestream or bypass filter; about 10% of the oil goes thru it, then drains back into the pan. It doesn't go from the filter to any bearings etc. If let to sit after a run, it is normal for the filter housing to drain down to about halfway full over a period of time.

I assume the gauges were showing oil pressure when it was running?

The inlet fitting on the filter (high on the side of the canister) has an orifice of .060" diameter that wouldn't take much to plug.

That is a bypass filter. Only about 5% of the oil goes through the filter and drains straight back into the crankcase. If you remove the inlet pipe I think you will find an orfice there and I'll bet it is plugged.
