As stated above, the holes are for the factory radio. It looks like the chrome trim ring is still in place and is a hard to find piece. Might want to keep track of that, especially if you're planning on going back with the original radio.
I know a guy locally who fixes my guitar amps. He's the best tron tech I've ever seen. If you want I'll give him a jingle and get his particulars. If ya got it, why not make it work? Oh and BTW, he won't try to sell something you don't need
I'd like to get my radio working....even though I NEVER turn on a radio. It just bothers me when something isn't working properly....like my speedometer!
They are cramped to work on, but getting them running is fairly straightforward. Good winter project maybe. Tubes are plentiful and cheap, though hardly ever at fault in a radio. Usually all that is required is a few dollars worth of replacement film capacitors and cleaning of the contacts and controls and you're in business.
I spoke with a guy from the Minneapolis area that will convert an AM to AM FM. Don't have the contact info, but an internet search should turn something up. He needs a core to start with, and specializes in the functional upgrade, not the cosmetics.
There's a radio on ebay that expires in a couple of hours. Says it works and the seller has a good feedback rating. It's currently at $57 plus shipping - great price for a working radio! The item number is: 261423788538
The radio might "work" but will need attention to operate correctly and not roast the tubes. Vintage radios have excellent audio, perfect for listening to ball games and such.
