Im not new to the site, I lost my old login info and just switched from a '99 7.3 with a lot of work done to an '11 F250 6.7. anyway, I have deleted the EGR, and all after treatment junk and have a H&S mini maxx. I was wondering if anyone has tried to fit a larger stock fuel tank since I don't have the DEF tank anymore. I have a CC short bed. my old 7.3 ext. cab short bed had a 29 gal tank and after modding the filler spout I could fill with 33 gal. I did the same mod to this tank and don't see any difference in how much I can fill. Id prefer to stick with a stock tank as its much cheaper than going with an aftermarket 50 gal tank.. thanks

So you want to put a tank from a long bed on it? How much are they? I also want a larger tank on my short bed but I don't really wanna spend 1600 for the aftermarket 50 gal tank too bad. Interested to see other options.

 

yes, basically Id like to put a long bed tank in. just not sure if the way the straps support it will work or not, not sure on cost but im sure its much cheaper than $1600. I know the owner of a local large junk yard so I can get one for not too much.

 

That sounds like a good idea. I too would like to have the long bed fuel tank without having to buy an aftermarket tank.

My reason is there could be a correlation between some Titan Tank installs and HPFP failures...but no causation is proven. That being said, I don't want to risk it with a non Ford product.

 

I purchased the in-bed transfer flow 50 gal tank from somebody on Craig's list. I got a great deal and I have come to really like the system. I know it's not what you want but it would be good if you found one used for sale like I did. Much cheaper and being able to run with 76 gallons is real nice. I enjoy finding low prices and stocking up when I can. I've found that SC and MS are the lowest prices for diesel.

Good luck. The long bed tank should fit and I'm sure you could fab up any strapping issues that may come up.

 

Something to look into might be setting if the sender unit flange is the same on the gas trucks. The tanks in your configuration with gas is I believe 36 gal.

 

And you'd want to confirm that the wires to the sending unit would reach. There is precious little slack in that harness. It's not that big of a deal to extend them once the tank is removed but it is one more thing.

 

I was just thinking about that, Ill have to check out the yard to see if they have any.

 

I'd love to be interested in this, but I think I already have the largest OEM tank that they put into pickups? Unless somehow the aft-axle one from the chassis cabs can fit, I could loose my spare tire, not like my spare is doing me any good right now anyway.

Yeah well it would look amazingly funny with a 30" spare tire with 3 other 38" tires all around. Lopsided wheelbarrow tire effect.

I'm thinking it would be a good idea to get a full size spare, and allocate some space in the bed to keep it. And chain it up so it doesn't wander away.

 

I also wondered once the DEF tank was removed if a Titan Tank LONGBED fuel tank would fit(67 gallons). I plan on doing the 50 gallon Titan Tank upgrade eventually, but wondered about the 67 galloner if it would fit. Also the longbed OEM is 37 gallons which is approximately 11 more then the short bed tank(26 gallons)
