EFI 460 NEED HELP PLEASE

Hi Guys
I havent posted very often on this forum but i do read quite often
I have a problem with my EFI 460 just had engine block machine and deck .20 thou and heads reconditioned with new larger valves problem i have now is when i install the roller rocker the rocker tips are on the outside edge of the valve and when heads where being reconditioned the engine builder told me i would need longer push rods but for me to get the roller tip anywhere near the center of the valve i need about 4mm or .160 thou shorter push rods engine builder tells me he is not sure what the problem is I have read on many forums Comp Cams and Yella terra etc that valve tip height needs to be maintained to factory height when installing larger valves problem is now i dont know what the standard valve tip height is.
If possible i would like to know the height from the valve spring seat to the tip of the valve stem.

I know the new valve springs are about .100 thou longer than the ones Comp cams suppied me with the Cam as the engine builder told me my springs were about a .100 thou to short so he had to get different ones my problem is I need to take this problem back to him to fix but I need to know what the standard height should be so i have datum piont to work from to get mt rocker geometry correct.
thank you for any help you can give on this matter.
regards Adam

My Ford service manual shows the stock installed valve spring height is 1.78 - 1.84 inches.

Hi Thanks for you help I also seen in the service manual the installed spring height but what I really want to know is the valve tip height as the head reconditioner installed larger valves but they also had longer stems I know the standard valve length is 5.175 but I don't know the length of the new valves installed the engine reconditioner doesn't think the valve height should matter he said just use longer push rods but when I do that the rockers are to far over the exhaust side of the valve

It's been a while since I've had valve covers off of a ford, but aren't they pedestal mount rockers?

Hi yes they are pedestal mount but I have had the heads reco'd and larger valves put in and have also put a crane cams stud conversion kit on it so I can install my Roller Tip Rockers which are 7/16 stud mount ones problems is the new larger valves the guy used were also longer in length I know this because he told me that the valve springs I got with camshaft kit from Comp Cams were to short by about 100 thou

Have you actually used a push rod length gauge to measure what length will correct your geometry? Even though this builder says you need longer push rods you had other work performed and installed a different cam. Tolerances add up (or subtract).

In my opinion I do not care what length the valve stem is, it's the installed height that matters. I am not an engine builder, it's strictly my opinion.

I think you are making this a bigger issue than it really is. Use the proper tools to determine what pushrod length your engine requires. If the results of using the tool are way off the scale then you have some solid data to go to the builder with.

The engine is back at the engine builder and he has the guy from Yella Terra coming sort out a new Roller Rocker to suit
We fitted the standard factory ones and the rocker was to short and the roller tip ones I brought are to long
Hopefully will have new Yella terra rollers and HD push rods in a few days
