Passed on one '56 coe due to the farmer trashing the doghouse moving the truck with his tractor. He thought the cab and doors were still worth the original asking price.

He finally sold it for what I was offering, TEN years later.

Yes i realize he was trying to help but i cant fab the whole truck and what he thought was not salvageable was great for my parts until now

 

Well you all like pics so this is what im starting with.

 

Well it seems like a mountain of work ahead of me. Maybe i should explain the reason i even started this build. My best friend of 40 years died 1 year ago today. We worked for his father at the fabrication shop years ago and he continued to work his regular job and the shop at nights. He always wanted me to build an old truck or custom car with him. After his death it made perfect sense that this would either keep his memory alive or get me over the loss. I can even bring his father into the build to redirect his sadness. So if you see i have too much rotted and rusted pieces I just needed to get started, maybe i can bring it back to life in a few years. I switched the titles today to my name. One was last owned in 1966.

 

Yikes! You have some work ahead of you.
The cab corners are a bit different on COE's....they have an extra rocker/trim panel under them. The pickup ones will fit, but need that part added. It was easier for me to just make cab corners to the correct size.
Good news is that chassis in the dirt has the cab mounting sub frame.....you will need that to attach your cab.

Well I have nice weather coming up and im back in usa so i guess i will start with stripping some of the trim off and removing the doors. I know the hinge bolts will be a pain. Time to strip the bad parts off and see what i have to do.

 

Well i ve gone thru my parts and found the shape of everything and its poor. I see i should of just trucked a better one in. Well old news I am proceding with a tear down of the parts cab and i was going to move the last frames and cab this week. I talked to a body man and got his advice on a few dings at the roof roll i need to fix. My plan is to put both cabs on the same trailer. Just tomorrow i am setting up my rust removal barrels. I am already running out of room so hopefully i can do a cleanout to make more. The door hinges are being a pain as most bolts are too far rotted for reuse. Does anyone have suggestions what should be next on my hit list?

I haven't been on the board much at all lately but wanted to check in on your project.
Sounds like you have plenty to do just rehabbing parts.
Inevitably, I seem to find a cheap part in great shape right after I rehab the junk I had.
Nonetheless, just keep plucking away at it!

Thanks for stopping in to check in. well i been inventorying the 3 trucks and got some real nice parts. Heres some pics of the flathead that will be on truck #2 in 5 years. I could do more if i had a big shop but im just a home garage and since its a coe an outside shade tree mechanic it seems. Heres the pics to show my disassemby

 

Wow that looks about the same shape as the F-100 I have been working on. I like to think I'm a bit of a masochist though. LOL

 

Let me know if you have a surplus of sheet metal.
I'd love to avoid resurrecting a few of the pieces I have.

Working on the truck just feels right. I cant tell you how long its been since i just felt good about seeing a small task done. When i did my 49 dodge truck I built a sand blasting cabinet. Now looking at all the parts to be done on these fords I decided to test it out again to see how it works. WOW. 5 minutes did a great job on a rusty bracket. I guess i will be spending the winter blasting parts.
Funny how this thing just sat in the way for so long and now its one of the most important tools in the garage.

 

Any progress is good progress!
I haven't hardly touched my COE lately. Well, I do get up in the seat once in a while and pretend to drive......does that count?

Curious, what type of dust extractor do you have for your blast cabinet? I need to come up with a better one....

 

I just use a craftsman shop vac With a exhaust hose outside thru a dryer vent
