In Cab Gas Tank

I hate to start a new thread for this but does anyone have the dimensions for the in cab gas tank for our trucks. I have a exterior tank now and want to build a speaker box for behind the seat and figured matching the tank dimensions would be easier then trying to measure. Thanks in advance.

No I don't but I wanted to give you a reminder. Up-firing will be heard better. If forward firing the seat will absorb the sound. Also figure in some air space between the grilles and the seat.

Thanks for the reminder, there doesn't seem to be much room under the sear for any equipment, not much real estate in a regular cab truck

No one has the measurements for one of these tanks? I can find pictures online for them but they don't give any actual dimensions

I mounted some universal aftermarket shoulder belt retractors in the cab corner cubby holes where the above pic mounted 4 x 10's. That meant I had to design a box for behind the seat that had tweet, mid, and sub. So I built a box all the way across the back on the floor. Taking measurments with the seat all the way back. It is not with me to measure but it's about 6 " square but with the face laying back the same angle as the back of the seat. In the middle I put two "piston" style subs. They are Aura brand but I don't remember the model number. They each have 5 or 6 pistins in them moving on two shafts. They mount 1/2 in and 1/2 out of the box. On the far ends of the box but facing forward and a little up I put 5 1/4" separates. The sound from these does hit the seat a little but most comes forward between the doors and seat.

In my '73 the previous owner installed a stereo box like that but he didn't remove the gas tank. There's hardly any leg room.

Ya that does sound pretty cramped, jefffafa, that sounds pretty extensive. The previous owner already cut holes in the door panels for 5x7's, so I just expanded them a little to accommodate 6x9's.

Better put a Cap or Bass Stoper in line to them then. I don't know know if the door sheetmetal can handle too much cone movenment without giving you some unwanted noise.

I hadn't even thought of that yet, hopefully I can get everything put together and see how it sounds, the door panels were actually thicker then I expected them to be. I'm just waiting on building my sub box right now, maybe next week I'll have to go to the junkyard and find one with a tank in it still and measure it.

Measure the area you have with the seat all the way back. I wouldn't worry about the size of a tank. You're going to need all you can get. Don't forget you have to design the inside of the box to accept the depth of the sub AND it's magnet.

Ya I think I'm going to go that direction, just thought someone on here would know it off the top of their head.
