When I pulled the fuel bowl off I found it has a 6.5. I did not keep the old one and did not think to look at it. My problem is since I don't know if I bought the right rebuild kit, I don't know which size is the right one.
This video explains power valve selection process.

To identify your Holley carb you need to look at the numbers stamped into the air horn of the carb......not the float bowl.

In the case of this one ...... a 3310

The 80457-2 3171 is on the front of the air horn, sorry I phrased it incorrectly the first time. The R 7809 is on the top of the carb along the edge.

Have you checked the timing? Is it hard start after running a while. If the timing is too advanced it could have a hard time at idle.

First of all, I can't believe OReillys had ANY PV's. A 3.5 is pretty low, IMO, usually they come out of the box with a 6.5, or even a 7.5. But as long as the PV isn't leaking by, it wouldn't affect starting.

Could your filter be totally plugged?

I have to say I'm reminded of the old saying, 90% of carb problems are ignition problems...

I went back to OReillys and got the 6.5. Installed it and it seems to be running good now. I haven't reved it up too high or stuck my foot in it on test driving. When I reved it up after the rebuild, that is when it backed fired and took out the PV. As far as ignition, I put in new rotor and coil. I have an HEI distributor. I figured once I had the carb working I would put in new plugs and wires next. The only issue I have now is it seems the choke is either not kicking in or fast idle is not kicking in. It is probably just an adjustment, but I didn't mess with that when I had the carb apart so I figured it would have been still like it was before the rebuild. Thanks for all your help on this.
