I was told when I bought my 2004 F-250 it was a chipped key although the head of the key does not match in size to any other Ford chipped key. Until recently I just had the 2 keys that came with the truck and at 80.00 per key from dealer this was the long term plan. Plans changed with a everything is ash now house fire and I lost my second key. Had a lock smith out to cut another key for my Daughters Accord and was asking about a door key until I could buy another chipped key. He looked it up and sure enough the book says its chipped. Look at the key and there is no room for a chip. He cuts a regular key and I try it in the ignition and it fires right up. So for what its worth my 2004 does not appear to have chipped key. Just in case anyone else was wondering about thier key being chipped or not.

The excursions though have the pats keys. Ford knew the excursions would be collectable and owned by fanatics..

2008 and up trucks have a chipped key. 1999-2007 trucks do not have a chipped key.

It's only the Excursion from 2000-2005 that had a chipped PATS key.

 

As with everyone else- no chip on my 2006 Amarillo

The 05 Harley Davidson F250 has a chipped key. Not sure if the truck actually needs it to run or if its just for looks?
