hi there i have a 1949 f-3 can anybody tell me if a steering wheel from a late 50s ford car or truck will fit my column and is a f-3 and a f-1 the same as far as steering wheels go thanks
I could be wrong, but I believe the 48-52 wheel fits on a tapered shaft with a woodruff key, where the 53+ has a splined shaft. The wheels wouldn't interchange.
This is from member "lowkat":
"I have a 57-60 Ford deluxe pickup wheel on my '48 F1. Probably the same splines into the 1970's but the depth of the wheel increases after 1960 on pickups."
Wayne, does your 52 merc have a key on the shaft?my 50 merc does not,i can index the wheel to where ever i need to.
I don't know, I've not taken it apart there yet. I haven't looked at a wheel lately, but of some reason my pea brain was remembering a notch on the wheel where a key would fit. If it's not built that way, it's my bad and apologies for the confusion.
no problem the horn button is glued in so i know that it will be a mess getting off and would like to have another wheel ready to go so it dont have to set a week thanks anyway
