Came home to find interior lights on!

Came home from work to find the interior lights on! All doors were closed and locked, cycled through locked/unlocked to see if the lights would turn off like they are supposed to, but nope. Opened and closed doors, sprayed WD on door latches, nope. Truck has been sitting for 3 or 4 weeks since I drive a company truck most of the time (free gas). Back story, we've had snow here past few weeks and it’s all melted off but still cold most days and only warming up to 40ish some days. My first thought was trapped humidity inside the cab, but there's not much in there (Colorado does that) so I'm ruling that out. Another back story, my windows and radio don't come on when the truck is first started once every 2 months or so, they do in 15 to 30 seconds after is been running so I was never really worried about it. My thought at this point is the VSM has taken a mini crap but any ideas are welcome. I'll scan it with AE tomorrow night when I have more time.

Thanks,
-AK

It does sound like the VSM, and they do fail even when they don't get wet. Try pulling the #19 fuse (for 2002 MY) and see if that "fixes" it.

Windshield was replaced three years ago with new (2006) ford part. I've never seen a leak before so I'm almost ruling it out. I pulled #35 I believe which was dash and interior lights for the time being and put a charger on the batteries. Will the VSM throw a code when scanned? Any VSM specific test I can do?

had this issue awhile back.mine turned out to be as simple as spraying some lube in the door latches. sounds crazy but it took care of it.

I think my truck has some sort of timer that shuts the interior lights off if the door is left ajar. Is that possible?

Yes. Not sure what package determines this, but our Ex does this as well as my truck. One is an '02 and the other is '03.

Yes. I think it's a battery protection feature.

It is called accessory delay, and on the 02 and up trucks the VSM and the hybrid instrument cluster are integrated and both play a part in accessory delay. When my VSM started acting up, pulling the #19 fuse would "fix" it, but only for a short time. Luckily I only needed a VSM because the hybrid instrument cluster is expensive and the only place I know of to get one is a dealership, can't just throw a salvage yard one on there

I was getting a "no communication with hybrid instrument cluster" code but not all the time. Can't remember what the number was. It would just show up on a KOEO. I have to assume it was related to the VSM because once that was replaced it never came back. There's an old thread on it I'll see if I can find it.

I've noticed this on mine when the batteries charges are low. Kind of like the computer is prioritizing power usage which I think is great as I'd rather have all the possible juice to start it up

windows/ radio

I also have intermittent window, radio, map lights, and glove box light. Seems to be a lot of this going on. Scottahoe bought the instrument cluster to my attention. further research brought a lot of results of people having problems with their cluster. some claim once changed problem solved. When I can spare not having a cluster I'll send it out to see if the problem can be resolved.
