What is hanging off of DOC?

I crawled under my truck today to shoot PartsBlaster on all my exhaust bolts, etc in preparation of deleting the DPF/DOC this weekend and saw something odd that I wasn't expecting.

On my exhaust just forward of the DOC, kind of halfway between the DOC and the attach point to the down pipe, is a black pipe-shaped sealed tube that is welded to the exhaust by a bracket. It also has a steel cable with a mongo-sized rivet attaching to this tube and the exhaust. That cable looks like a security backup in case one of the bracket welds fails.

The tube is about 9" long and 2" in diameter. It is standing off from the exhaust by about three inches in a slightly outboard and upward position.

I don't see this thing on any diagrams or pictures of the DOC in the shop manual.

Any idea's? Maybe a counterweight for balance or something????

It is just for exhaust vibrations and stuff. It is not functional. Strap is a ground wire.

Thanks Senix. So since my FloPro exhaust doesn't have such a vibration isolator will I expect to hear or feel some buzzes, etc?

Is it a full exhaust from the turbo down or a delete pipe, if it's a delete it's liable to hum a tad, mine does.

Good, report back please, I intend to do the downpipe this summer. Not so much because of the hum, I've grown accustomed to it, just because I can.

Simply a solid piece of useless dead weight. ... It does act as a counter weight. I put my exhaust on the garage floor with the weight on, then off. It does cause it to roll a little. I can imagine it's more when the exhaust is suspended.

Sir Bubba,

I think we crossed wires somewhere. When I referred to my exhaust mod as downpipe back I meant that I am running a new exhaust starting from where the downpipe stops and running aft. I retain the original downpipe. It sounds like you thought I was doing a turbo back exhaust install.

But I will let you know how it all works out.
