I have a 97 Power Stroke 4x4, approx 250000 miles. truck will run rough when driving, "check engine" light will come on...so i would throw it in neutral, kill it, restart it, and the truck would run fine afterwards. I had it diagnosed and code "PO470" (exhaust back pressure sensor) was reading an intermittent failure.
So while waiting for the part to come in the mail, the same issue occurred, and i did my routine, but this did not fix the issue. the truck continued to run rough and eventually died. so i had it diagnosed and code "PO344" came up, camshaft position sensor came up. just for *****s and grins we looked at the fuel pressure parameters while cranking it and it was spiking all the way up too 3600psi!!!
My question is...are both my fuel pressure sensor and the camshaft sensor bad? or is one sensor making the other sensor read faulty? My friend is a diesel mechanic for 30+ yrs and he says the fuel pressure sensor on his PSD went bad and it did not spit out any codes, he just replaced it and fixed the issue. i'd rather not spend a lot of money if i don't have too, so some advice would be appreciated.
