...So its almost that time to get rid of my P265's and get some new tires. I'm thinkning about going bigger with a LT285.....Is that going to fit ok on a stock rim?
I had 285/75-16's on a set of stock rims and i had no clearance issues but i am a 4wd with a small lift however i swapped to a 16x10's rim and had to cut my valance in order it clear
i was thinking of doing the exact same thing, replacing my 265/70-17's with maybe 285/70-17's. what are the pros and cons of doing this ? is it worth it ? my rig is a stock 02 F-150 fx4. thanks
I think its just a personal preference issue. I mean i upgraded because i wanted a nice set of mud tires and i wanted them on 10 inch rims. I had to trim my front valance and noticed Im using a bit more gas but all in all Im happy
I have 1999 f150 stock wheels on 305/70/16 no rubbing anywhere no torsion bar crank. But im missing the plastic bumper but they still look like theyd clear with it
I agree that the 285's will fit on the stock rims just keep in mind you will most likely be going from a P rated tire to an LT rated tire ,which means stiffer and more ply sidewalls which in turn will give you a harsher ride quality.
i had a set of 285/75 Dayton timberline MT's on my f150 with stock rims and no lift or torsion key mods. They rubbed the lower black valence a little but i just took a saw zawl a cut the corners off of it and they didn't rub anymore.
I have 285/70/17s, had to cut lower valance. It might help for clearance to crank on your torsion bar bolts. Also makes for a cheap 2" leveling kit. But a rough ride kinda.
