6.2L in a F150

Hi everyone I'm a nub and this is my first post. I'm currently driving a 2011 F-350 with the 6.2L. It had a job to do when we bought it but things change. I really like that engine and am now going to trade the truck for a 2014 F-150. The heaviest I would be towing, 3 or 4 times a year, would be in the range of 4,000 to 7,000lbs. I can't make up my mind about which engine to get - another 6.2L or the 3.5L EB. From what I've been reading on this forum the gas mileage on the EB is not really much better then the 6.2L in the Super Duty body. Could someone who currently has the 6.2L in a F-150 body chime in with some real world experience. All comments would be appreciated. TIA.

Bill

I didn't have the 6.2, although I have it in my SD also. I did have the 3.5TT MaxTow in my 13 F150. The only time your EB will see SD numbers may be while towing,, under daily driving you could see 15-18 mpg's depending on the set up/gears/bed size/4x4? and the like..The MPG's will be better. Keep in mind the 6.2L in the F150 is not the exact engine in the SD.

First welcome to FTE and the 6.2 forum. Most of us have the 6.2 in a SD but there's a few F150 ownrs here. If I was going to a F150 I would take a real close look at the EB mostly because it may get a little better fuel mileage.

thank you for the info. I really should have included more on the F-150. It would be a Crew Cab, 6 1/2' box, 3.55 electronic locking rear axle, 4X4. My F-350 is set up this way and I would like a new F-150 to be set up the same. In my 350 SRW I usually get (USA gallons) about 14 to 16 mpg running empty at highway speeds (55/60mph) and around 11 to 12mpg around town empty. When pulling a 9000lb boat and trailer for a 3000 mile trip in good driving conditions I was averaging about 10/11mpg. What have they done to the 6.2 for F-150 use?

I had same setup but the 3.73 gears. The 6.2 in the F150 is suppose to get 11/13/16 based on sticker.. I have seen guy that got the 6.2 say they even get better than that..I can tell you no matter what engine 6.2 or 3.5TT , when you hook up and tow all the numbers go to crap..I only got 10.5 with my 3.5TT while towing bass boat..When your into boost it sucks the fuel down but darn fun to drive.

Keep in mind that your payload going from the F350 to a F150 will be less, so don't just look at the F150's ability to tow a trailer, but also how much cargo you plan to load in the bed and cabin, especially with a Crew Cab.

My camping buddy has the EB 150 max tow with the 3.73 and I have driven his truck. IF i was going to get an F150 I would go with the EB and 3.73 if you plan on towing. Nothing wrong with the 6.2, I love it, but for the F150 I think the EB is a better match.

I had a F150 w/ 6.2L and used to tow my 5000lb boat around. While the motor could pull the axles off the trailer the F150 chassis could not handle the boat under most towing conditions. Around town it's no problem.

Don't have any experience with the EB motor but have heard mixed opinions on it.

I stepped up from the 150 to 250 and couldn't be happier.

Thanks to everyone who has responded. It's much appreciated and a big help. Today I test drove a 2014 F-150 Lariat, 3.5EB, 3.73 gears, electronic locking rear end, 7650 lb. GVWR package ( I thought it was supposed to be 9400?), max TT, 20" wheels and the larger 36 gallon fuel tank. What people have been saying about the power in that V-6 is really true! Most impressive! The ride is firm but not tooth rattling like my F-350 when it has no load in the box. Firm but smooth, very responsive to steering input and just a very nice all round truck. I think I could live with fuel mileage while towing that is half of what you might get if you were not towing but there are so many variables that come into question when you start comparing different drivers, weather conditions, load, truck/trailer condition, etc, etc. Many a flame war has started with the opinions about this so I'll just keep quiet. The dealer is now looking for a F-150 Lariat 3.5L EB built to my specs and will order one if he can't find one in stock at another dealer in this part of Ontario. A question for you: Can some one please explain the gear ratios to me. My F-350 has 3.55 gears, todays F-150 had the 3.73 gears and I think there's a couple of more options. What would be the best for towing 4000/6000lbs. twice a year and the rest of the time empty? I'm clueless about gear ratios and usually just take whatever the factory sticks in there.

Look at it this way. If your sold on the F150 with the EB, if you go with the MaxTow package your getting the best the EB has to offer with the biggest tow rating 11,100 lbs...I had a 13 MaxTow EB w/3.73 gears. you get the best of both worlds, decent fuel mileage and good towing ability..The 3.73 make city driving a breeze. It is better to have more and not need it then to wish you had more later and cant change it.. Good luck with your decision,,just get a extended warranty and you will be good..

I looked at the f150 before I bought and figured out that I had to get max tow and hd package to get the best payload /towing combination,( I thought that hd came with the max tow automatically but it doesn't) however there were none around and the cost to order one was the same or more as getting a similarly equipped f250 with the incentives that were available.

I guess I'm going to have to start frequenting the 3.5EB forum. I'm trading the 2011 F-350 XLT 6.2L (affectionately known as Big White) in for a 2014 F-150 Lariat 3.5L EB (to be known as Little White). Everyone gave me good info to go on and it was much appreciated. Thank you. I'll see you on the other threads. Take care

I have several V10 SD trucks and a 13 SD with the 6.2, all 4.30 gears and 4X4. Just got a 14 F150 Raptor and it is in Vegas sitting at Shelby waiting to get a little work done. It is the 6.2 with 4.10 gears and four wheel drive I hope. I haven't even seen it yet. It is getting a Whipple supercharger and tune for 575 HP. Off road exhaust with no cats. It should tow with the Ecoboost I would think. And sound like a real truck, not like a Kirby vacuum cleaner Ecoboost. We also have a 13 Ford with the V10 and 5.38 gears from the factory. It has the Five Star tune and runs pretty good as I always tow with it and am grossing right at 26K combined weight. It sure could use the 6 speed, as it still has the five speed in it. The six speed is light years ahead of the five I have found. You can do so much more with the select shift.
