Been trolling the sight now for a bit and have seen the terms "High Boy" and "Low Boy" used to describe some trucks. Yet I am clueless as to what the difference is. Could someone please throw me a bone as to what makes them unique from one another.

A "highboy" refers to a 73-77.5 f250 4x4, where as a "lowboy" refers to the 77.5-79 f250 4x4's. the highboys from the factory actually sit roughly 4 inches higher then the later model f250's. hence the term. Other differences in include 2.5" inch front springs that are mounted to a crossmember in the front of the frame, low pinion front big hub front axles, and divorced transfer cases.

The highboy is simply the most awesome truck Ford ever built

They also only came with 4.10 gears, the fuel tank was located behind the seat and they had a narrower frame that regular ford pick-ups.

Pretty sure you are wrong, the 73-79 front springs are all 3" wide, its the rear that are 2.5.....in the 67-77 range I do believe.

 

Front is 5-6 leafs depending on GVW at 3" wide; rear is 9 leafs at 2 1/4" wide.

 

Yes I agree for the front 5 to 6 leafs 3" for a HB and 2 leafs 3" for a 78/79 lowboy.

2 1/4, 2 1/2.... at least I was close? I was thinking they we not 2 1/2, but was not sure, thanks for the correction.

 

At least we narrowed it down.

2.5" front > 2.5" rear > 2.25" rear.

Front leaf springs: 3" wide, 26" > > eye bolt < < 27"

Rear leaf springs: 2 1/4" wide, 26" > > eye bolt < < 26"

C7TZ-5560-F 6 leaf rear spring standard equipment, C7TZ-5560-G 9 leaf rear spring optional. C9TZ-5588-A single (1) leaf auxillary spring optional for both.

Front driving axle ratios (except 1976/77 Crew Cab): 3.54 & 4.09 / 1976/77 Crew Cab: 4.10.

ND, could you have ordered 4.56's or 4.88's?

Neither ratio is listed for front driving axles.
