zf5 4x4 to 4x2

I've been hunting unsuccessfully for a 2wd ZF5 transmission with the smallblock bolt pattern to go behind a 351W for my '51 Power Wagon. I scored a 2wd ZF5 with the NP208 and clutch/flywheel for $200 locally. I have to keep the divorced transfer case in my truck due to an offset rear diff and I'm not wanting to spend $1k for the for parking brake assembly. Any options other than leaving the 208 in there and using a super short shaft between the two? Unfortunately I'm in Maine and 2wd anything is next to impossible to come by, especially in big pickup trucks.

Thanks guys
Tom

Pull the trans apart, swap output shafts, put trans back together using 2wd tail housing.

Well sorta... of course the "output" shaft on the ZF5 is the mainshaft... And all the gears are loaded onto the mainshaft.
Plus on the ZF5, the tail housing is the first thing you start with when building the transmission, and last thing you're left with when tearing it apart....

The better option is to get any 2wd trans and swap the front housing with the one you have.

I'd keep looking for the 2wd transmission you need.

Where in Maine are you? I have a 2wd rear case and mainshaft, and could use a 4x4 rear case and mainshaft... Problem is I have diesel gears and you're looking for gasser gears.

I'm in central Maine by Augusta. I just got the tranny on Monday in Springfield. I think I'd actually be ok with the diesel gears. Here's the chart with where the speed would be at 2k rpm. What I might do is throw this in there and just leave the NP208 on there and if I find a 2wd transfer case I'll just have to get a new stubby shaft down the road.

Gas
Stock Axles Speed
1st 5.72 6.25
2nd 2.94 12.15
3rd 1.81 19.74
4th 1.00 35.73
5th 0.76 47.02
rev 5.24 6.82
Shift RPM 2000.00
Axle 5.83
Tire 35.00

Diesel
Stock Axles Speed
1st 4.14 8.63
2nd 2.37 15.08
3rd 1.42 25.17
4th 1.00 35.73
5th 0.77 46.41
rev 5.24 6.82
Shift RPM 2000.00
Axle 5.83
Tire 35.00

Dylan, tried to respond to your email but I guess you aren't setup for it. Unfortunately for you I already bought a 2wd and sold my 4wd with the tcase. Haven't been on in a while because I'm actually ramping up for a move back home to the Carolinas.

I graduated from State in '07...when were you there? I grew up in Durham and I've been in Concord since I graduated and went to work.
